The Division of Human Nutrition and Exercise Science and Sport Medicine (ESSM) unit at UCT are doing a study on the dietary intake and practices of marathon runners in SA (approved by the UCT Ethics Committee). Information will be used to:
1. Develop a dietary screening questionnaire for marathon athletes;
2. Identify dietary problems experienced by South African marathon runners;
3. Formulate evidence based recommendations to address identified dietary problems.
Data collection involves the completion of a questionnaire that takes approximately 30 minutes.
Fieldworkers, Keegan Eichstadt and Alex Kirkman are available to visit the club at an appropriate time (i.e. when many athletes are around) to discuss the research with interested athletes and hand out the questionnaire. Athletes can take the questionnaire home, complete it at their leisure and leave it at the club once it is completed for the fieldworkers to collect.
Participants may choose to have their names entered into a raffle once we receive the completed questionnaire.
Prizes include I-pod shuffles (3) sponsored by Discovery Health and a pair of New Balance running shoes sponsored by New Balance Pty Ltd, South Africa.
