Cape Town Marathon on course

The Cape Town Marathon will wind its way through the streets of the Mother City again this spring.

The race, which is organised by Western Province Athletics, in partnership with the City of Cape Town, takes place on Sunday, 26 September 2010.

The Marathon, with its fast and flat course, is appealing to both elite athletes in search of quick times and beginners who want to complete their first marathon. Both the profile of the course and the eight-hour cut-off time period mean that even novice runners can tackle the distance without the pressure of finishing after the cut off.

The weekend offers something for everyone, the running starts early on Saturday morning, when the Festival of Running 100km and 100mile races start at midnight in Mouille Point. They are followed by a 5 x 4.2km inter schools/company/club relay and a 5km fun run on Saturday, 25 September.

Starting at the same time as the marathon is a 10km race, which follows the last part of the marathon route. Just over an hour later there is a 4,2 km mini-marathon for junior athletes, which also takes place on the last part of the marathon route. The entrants for the mini marathon will qualify by participating in a series of races in the lead-up to the marathon weekend.

Entries is now open and will close on 6 September 2010.
