Marathon runners who vomit

Sounds like a horrible topic! However for runners who vomit during or after races, it is a real problem.

Dr Joe Tyrrell is thinking of doing some simple research to try to find out why some marathon and ultra-marathon runners get very nauseous and vomit during or after long races.

Dr Tyrrell needs 10 - 20 runners who have the problem. They would be asked to fill in a questionnaire, and then - if they are running Oceans next year - to agree to take part in a very simple bit of data collection before and after the race which would probably involve nothing more than being weighed and answering some questions about fluid intake, etc.

Dr Tyrrell will do the research with Wayne Derman of Sports Science and possibly a neurologist. They may get some useful information from it which would help people with the problem.

Anyone with the problem may send their names and contact details to Dr Tyrrell at joe@heartdoc.co.za
