RULES
• Entrants for the marathon must be 20 years or older and for the half marathon 16 years or older on race day, Saturday 20 November 2010.
• No changing from the marathon to the half marathon or vice versa will be allowed.
• Licensed athletes must run in club colours. All competitors must display their 2010 provincial licence number on the back of the vest and the official race number on the front.
• No personal seconding or bicycles will be allowed on the route.
• The time limit will be 5 hours for the marathon and 3½ hours for the half marathon.
• Social walkers are welcome to enter the half marathon.
• In addition to Overall (Open) prizes, participants will only be eligible for an age category prize in the age category they enter. Corresponding numerical age category tags must be worn on the front and back of their vests. Participants may enter the age category corresponding to their chronological age or any younger category down to senior.
• Temporary licensed participants are eligible for age category prizes provided they enter the relevant age group, wear the appropriate age tags and provide proof of age.
• Juniors (born from 1991 or later) wearing a junior or senior licence, must display age tags to qualify for age group prizes.
• Club colours must be worn to qualify for team prizes.

• The marathon will start at 05:30 sharp and the half marathon at 05:45 sharp in Doornbosch Street next to the Markötter Sports Grounds, Stellenbosch.
• All runners must register. Runners will have to produce their confirmation e-mails in order to receive their race numbers. Registration will take place on Friday, 19 November, 15:00-20:00 and Saturday, 20 November, from 04:30 at the Clubhouse, Markötter Sports Grounds, Stellenbosch and Friday, 19 November, 09:00-18:00 at Mr Price Sport at N1 City, Somerset Mall and Cape Gate. Runners must select one of the venues when entering for the race.
• If qualifying for a permanent number in this year’s marathon or half-marathon (after 9 completed marathons (or halfmarathons) or 2 wins in one category) please contact Hans Hugo or Christiaan Pieters (see contact deatails below), confirming the years of competition as well as finishing times or positions.

The entrant also confirms that he/she will abide by the rules of the event and that this Indemnity agreement is entered into for the benefit of the Mr Price Winelands Organising Committee, Helderberg Harriers, the sponsors and the persons assisting in the organisation and holding of the race.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION
MARATHON:
Start in Doornbosch Street, Stellenbosch and head out on the M12/R310 towards Kuilsriver. First 6 km is flat until the start of the first big hill. This climb continues until just past the 10km mark. After cresting the top of the hill turn left into Vlaeberg Road. This is now downhill to the 15km mark. Turn left into the R310 and turn right into Annandale Road 2 km further. This undulating section takes you to the R44 and the 22 km mark. Turn right into the R44 and follow this undulating section to Somerset West. Return to Stellenbosch coming back along the R44. From about the 40 km it is slightly downhill, levelling out just before the finish.
HALF MARATHON:
Start in Doornbosch Street, do a 5 km loop through Krigeville, then head out on the R44 towards Somerset West. At the 11 km mark turn left into Blaauwklippen Rd. The next 5 km is gravel and slightly uphill. Getting back on the tar at about 16 km there is a short, steep downhill and winding section before the course levels out to a less steep section. This section takes runners back to the R44, which they join at about 19 km. From about the 19 km it is slightly downhill, levelling out just before the finish.

The marathon will be a qualifying event for the
2011 Two Oceans and Comrades ultra marathons.

The fun run is an open event for licensed and unlicensed athletes.
No runners under 9 years of age may enter.
The start will be at 06:30 in Doornbosch Street next to the Markötter Sports Grounds.
For safety reasons young competitors are requested to start near the back.
Entries at R10.00 each are taken on the morning of the run from 05:00.
The time limit is 1 hour and all finishers will receive a medal.

RACE CHARITY
The Animal Welfare Society of Stellenbosch consists of dog kennels and a cattery which serve as an interim place of safety and rehabilitation space for dogs and cats. Besides providing shelter for the animals, the Animal Welfare Society of Stellenbosch is involved with a SPECIAL STERILIZATION PROGRAMME which was started in 2000, and it focuses on the sterilization of dogs and cats in our communities to curb uncontrolled breeding and unwanted, sick and abused animals. A clinic for this purpose was built at the shelter in 2005, to facilitate this programme. As the beneficiary organization of the Mr Price Winelands Marathon, all donations will contribute towards this essential and far-reaching function of the Society.
