Online entries and in-store entries at Sportsmans Warehouse for the tenth Landmarks Half Marathon close on Sunday 23 October, and thereafter runners will have to enter on the day of the event at the Western Province Cricket Club (WPCC) in Rondebosch from 05h00 onwards.
The event takes place on Sunday 6 November, and those runners completing their tenth half marathon will receive their permanent numbers to celebrate this milestone. The half marathon starts at 06h00 and the cut off is at 09h15, which gives runners over three hours to complete the 21.1 kilometres.
A popular event on the Western Province road running calendar, the 21.1km route offers a challenging and scenic route past key landmarks in the Southern Suburbs. The route incorporates some of the many heritage sites, world-class sporting facilities and tranquil open spaces within the surrounds of WPCC, which include the Rondebosch Common, Mostert’s Mill, Rhodes Memorial and Josephine Mill to name a few.
Prize money has been increased to a total of R25 000, plus there is a R5 000 incentive for the male or female who break the course records set by Neo Molema (1:06:59) in 2004 and Bulelwa Mtshagi (1:19:49) in 2002.
Participants can enter at www.topevents.co.za. For entry enquiries, contact Top Events on 021-511 7130 and email info@topevents.co.za.
The event also offers the MySchool Move for Your Health 6km Fun Walk/Run incorporating the ADT/Woolworths School Challenge. This fun run/walk is organised by the WPCC Running Section and the Sports Science Institute of South Africa and promotes the World Health Organisation’s global “Move for your Health” campaign. Participants of all ages are encouraged to take part in what promises to be a fun filled day for the whole family.
The 6km starts at 06h45 and is aimed at encouraging schoolchildren to be active and get outdoors. Cut off for the fun run/walk is 09h00. There is also great prize money up for grabs, where the schools with the highest percentage of learners participating in relation to the total number of learners in the school, will be rewarded. This event provides an ideal opportunity for schools to get active, have fun and win great prizes.
The event will also incorporate the “Running with Teddies Campaign” and all participants are asked to bring children’s toys and games with them on race day and drop it off on route outside the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, the event’s official charity.
