Project Flamingo is an initiative started by a group of doctors to reduce the waiting period for mastectomies from 3 months to 2 weeks. Having lost several loved ones in the struggle, the fight against cancer and breast cancer awareness is a topic we at Ommiedraai Friends AC are passionate about.
In 2016, the OFAC Comrades Team have committed to pledging their efforts towards Project Flamingo, to raise funds for lifesaving mastectomies. Each Comrades runner will try to raise at least R4 000 to pay for ONE operation.
We appeal to the running community for support. We humbly appeal to our sister clubs to possibly, as a club, raise sufficient funds to pay for just one surgery. R4 000 covers surgical consumable and nursing costs. Surgeons and anesthetist donate their time and skill.
Donations can be made directly into the Project Flamingo bank account, with the reference “Ommiedraai”.
