July Captains corner: Men
Good day to all the BAK men
After a busy month of running, which included Comrades and ORAK, there are
lots of high fives and congratulations from me to you!
I’d like to start off by congratulating each one of our Comrade athletes
that lined up at the start. You are already a champion of champions! Whether
you did your PB or whether you struggled with tummy issues and did not finish,
just know you took on something which people refer to as the ultimate human
challenge. All of you have carried our Bellville name high! As men’s captain, I
take my hat off to you and your family because it was a sacrifice which you and
your family made together.
Then on to ORAK where Bellville Athletic Club literally dominated the
event and Vredendal. For every runner who braved the cold and who gave their
all, a big thumbs up from me! It was such a lovely event with a great vibe.
People were seen dancing and just having fun with each other and every BAK
member supported each other with encouragement like, “just one more km” and “you
can do it”. That is what makes this club special. During the evening’s prize
giving event, most of us were quite tender and sore, and a few sported a lovely
tan, but we are all proud of each other and it showed in the prize allocations.
We walked away with the men’s team prize, the ladies team prize, the overall
winner in the men’s category as well as the most entrants by a club! On that
note, a special congratulations to Lionel Cronje (overall winner: 115km!), coach
Quintus van Rensburg, Andre Treurnich and Roelof Briers.
Thanks also to each and every man who contributed to the overall men’s team
km’s, we gave the ladies a ‘run’ for their money but on that note I’d like to
congratulate the ladies and their captain Ilze, for taking the honours for the
6th year running. Well done ladies, you were impressive and deserved
winners.
To all the men that have birthdays this month, happy birthday! May it be
a blessed new year, and may your year be filled with loads of joy, happiness,
good fortune and health
Lastly, be safe on the road or rest well after a long month of June. All
the best with your next challenge.
Signing off,
Meyer Dalton
