September Chairman’s update
Andre
To all our fellow BAK Members,
With winter nearly done we can look forward to a great
running season ahead of us.
I want to thank everyone that took the time to attend the
Special General Meeting, as you all know by now BELLVILLE RUNNING CLUB
was chosen as our new club name and the proposed club constitution was also
adopted. I have submitted all the required documentation to WPA and if
everything goes well, the new club will accepted by WPA at their AGM in
October.
I previously mentioned the new club challenges that will be
starting in October and this an opportune time to tell you more about the two
new challenges, i.e. the 20x10 challenge and the new revised Ultra
challenge.
The 20x10 challenge is as the name says, 20 x 10km races
from 1 October 2019 to 30 September 2020. This challenge will be for the members
that are just starting out or for those for which the 21x21km challenge is too
big of a challenge. The revised Ultra challenge is for the more experienced,
long distance, crazy members. The current challenge is just 4 ultra-marathons,
but we are changing this to 8 completed races, 3 of these must be
ultra-marathons. The remaining 5 events can be standard marathons of 42,2km. This
will surely be a huge challenge and I look forward to seeing who will taking
this one on!
On 16 October is our Bakgat 10km, the race
venue has changed to Bellville High School and we are looking forward to a
amazing event. We will be needing your help on the day as we will be needing
marshals, people to assist at registration, parking marshals and people to
assist at the water point. I am therefore requesting you make yourself
available to help on this day as we cannot present a successful race without
your help. Please note that NONE of our members will be allowed to run
the actual race. A marshal run will take place at a later date and more
information will be communicated to you in due time.
Our annual golf day is taking place on 10 October!
This is our biggest fund raiser of the year and what we need here are players,
prizes, donations or any other assistance to help make this a day a success. The
golf day flyer is available in our newsletter and on our website.
Good Luck to everyone taking part in the Cape Town Marathon,
enjoy this fantastic event.
If you are a Cape Town Marathon novice, i.e. Bellville
member doing their very 1st marathon, please notify the club at bellvilleac@gmail.com by no later than 09
September 2019.
See you on the road,
