Chairman's update: October 2019

October 2019 Chairman’s update

To all our fellow BAK Members,

I would like to start off by congratulating all our Cape Town Marathon Runners, we were very well represented on the day, and to all our first timers, WELL DONE!! I also want to make special mention of Thulani Matshoba, who did his first marathon in a time of 2h58, what a brilliant performance!!

Many of you run in Versus socks and have come to know this as a top-quality sock, which has taken the runners market by storm. I have been in talks with them about our very own BELLVILLE running socks and they have done a design specifically for us (see image). The normal cost of these socks in the store is R125/pair but we can offer it to you, our members, for R85/pair. The only constraint is that we need to have a minimum order of at least 300. We therefore need to know if you’d be interested in buying  these socks and if so, how many pairs you would buy? Please send an email to bellvilleac@gmail.com if you are interested?  If we get enough interest, we will go ahead with the order and I personally think it will look amazing if all our runners can compete at races in our own Bellville socks.

The new challenges will also be starting in October and I have received quite a few questions on how to enter a challenge. There will be an electronic entry form on the website so please go and enter as soon as it’s available. Remember, if you are unsure of entering, you can also still enter during the first 6 months of the running year, i.e. up to the end of March 2020. Good luck to each and every one that will be taking on one of these challenges!

Our awards evening is around the corner, please keep a look-out for more information about the date, theme and other relevant information. I am also requesting that all the floating trophy winners from last year to please return the trophies to the club as soon as possible.

On the topic of our awards evening, every year we have a very special award, which is the only award that you, the members, can choose, and this is the Runner's Runner of The Year award. This is an award that will go to someone in the club that you feel deserves special recognition. This could be for someone that has had an outstanding running achievement or year, or someone that has made a big contribution to the club. It could also be someone that has inspired you in some way or someone that has conquered the odds. Whatever or whomever you feel deserves this award, you need to PLEASE send us your nominations, with a motivation as to why you are nominating this person. Please send your nomination and motivation to bellvilleac@gmail.com by 18 October 2019. After the nominations have been received, we will communicate all the nominations and motivations so that you can vote for the person of your choice. Last year the response was not so great, so I am urging all of our members to send in those nominations and to afford this award the prestige it is meant to have.

Please remember that our BAKgat 10km is on 16 October and a big thank you to everyone that have made themselves available. This is our club’s race, together we will make it a success!

See you on the road,
Andre
