Chairman's update: December 2019

December 2019 Chairman’s update

To all our fellow BAK Members,

As we are approaching the end of 2019, I want to thank all of you for an amazing year!

Our club has grown tremendously, we have had some brilliant performances, a lot of fun times and laughs on the road and we are on the verge of starting our new club, of which I will give an update in a few weeks time.

We had another very successful awards evening, I want to thank everyone who made this evening possible, to all our winners, congratulations!! I know how much hard work it takes to be a standout performer; we are very proud of you all! To those who did not receive an award this year, you are still winners for lacing up your shoes and hitting the road.

The Versus socks have been ordered and if all goes well, we will receive them at the end of January 2020. I have received the sample which many of you have seen, it looks fantastic and I cannot wait to see you all running in our very own socks.

I would like to emphasise again that we as Bellville members must please NOT litter at a race; as I recently mentioned on Facebook, one of our members was seen dropping a sachet just a few metres away from a bin. To see that a Bellville member has been singled out is not nice feeling so let us be the example rather than the problem. Please use the bins provided or carry the sachet with you until the next bin. Let us keep each other accountable and not allow this type of thing to happen again.

Please remember that our next race that we are hosting is the Dan Luyt 15km on 9 February 2020. For the first time in many years we have moved the race to a Sunday morning in an attempt to get more runners to support the race. The race has also been selected as the league race for February so I am hoping for huge numbers and we will be needing your help again to make this race successful! Please remember that no Bellville member is allowed to run the actual race but rather the helper (marshall) run.

I'd like to congratulate Ray Herron for again beating his wife Andrea at the Winelands Marathon, great going Ray, time to up your game Andrea...

I want to end off by wishing you all a very happy and blessed festive season and may 2020 be your best year ever! If you are going away on holiday, please enjoy the rest, be safe, and come back refreshed.

See you on the road,
Andre
