February 2020 Chairman’s update
To all our fellow BAK Members,
To all our fellow BAK Members,
I want to start off by wishing all our members and their
families an amazing 2020 and may all your personal and running goals be
achieved during the year. A special welcome to all our new members, I am so
happy that you chose to be part the Bellville family and I hope to meet all of
you soon, and would love to see you at the club and at our club events. We will
be having our new members braai on 27 February so please diarise this
date.
As you all know, we will hosting the Dan Luyt 15km on 9
February. We have been asking for volunteers for some weeks now and
unfortunately we are still short on the amount of people needed to successfully
host this race. This is very disappointing as less than 25% of our members have
made themselves available. There have even been members from other clubs that
have volunteered to help. I am again requesting our members to please help, we only
have two races in the year and the sacrifice is a small one. Please email
Hilton on langman.murray@gmail.com to
volunteer and remember no Bellville member will be allowed to run the actual
race. The helpers run is planned for 8 February, it will be
free of charge and you will receive a medal.
As a club we always try and have the club gazebo with
drinks at popular races, we do however have to request once again to please
stick to the one drink per member limit. You can either have a
beer, a flavoured milk, cold drink or water. This is to consider the slower
runners and the marathon runners when there is more than one distance on the
day.
There has been a further delay on the Versus socks and we
will only receive them around 26 February. My apologies for this but we are at
the mercy of the manufacturer, but I know it will be worth the wait.
I also want to remind our members but also to make our new
members aware, that littering at races is not permitted. We have all
committed to run clean so it is very simple, throw your sachets in the bins
provided or carry it with you until you get to a bin. Let us keep each other
accountable and not allow this behaviour.
I am current talking to a supplier about a club cap and
peak, they will both be navy blue and will be embroided. The cost to our
members will be R90 and if you are interested in one then please let me know on
amariano133@gmail.com. Be sure to please state if you want the
cap or peak.
I want to end off by requesting our members to please
support the club’s social events. We have a month-end braai on the last
Thursday of every month, we will have a Two Oceans evening, a Comrades pre-and-post
function and we are at the club every Thursday, so please join us for the time-trial
and a drink afterwards. Get to know your fellow club-mates and enjoy the social
aspect of our club.
See you on the road.
Andre
