March 2020 Captains corner
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
This month we are doing a combined newsletter again.
Firstly, we want to say thank you to all our members who volunteered at our Dan Luyt race in whatever form it may have been, even behind the scenes with the arrangements. Thank you for offering up your time to help make the race a success! You guys are awesome, and we hope to see even more members at the BAKGAT race this year.
We want to congratulate all the BAK members that completed their first Half and Full Marathons at Peninsula and Hemel and Aarde, or even crushed their Personal bests in February. We are so proud of you and hope that there will be plenty more to come. Work hard and keep going, we will be cheering for you all the way.
As everyone knows we’ve introduced a new Captains Challenge last year. It has been a bit slow and we do apologize for the long wait, we had to wait for new race data and to add all the new members. With all the data now ready we hope to send more updates regularly. So, it will be available on its own menu on the BAK Website. So far, we have lots of contenders for the top spot and it’s great to see how many people are getting active and support the club and its members. Everybody in the club is automatically entered in this challenge and we’ve introduced it to help grow the community spirit in the club and inspire each member to give their best. It’s a point system that allows you to earn points for participation. So, no matter how fast or slow you go, you will earn points if you participate in races in your club kit, volunteer at our races and functions, and attend them as well. The rules and points table as well as the current standings will all be available to go through soon.
We are so proud to see more and more members reaching out to other members to cheer them on at the finish or along the route. Keep it up everyone.
For those members that help to keep the streets clean by picking up some empty sachets on the races, we are extremely proud of you and want to thank you for setting a wonderful example to everyone. Let’s continue to help keep the races clean and motivate others to do as well.
March is a busy month with lots happening. Good luck to those members who are doing the Cape Town Cycle tour as well as the West Coast Marathon.
For those who have birthdays in March, we would like to wish each one a wonderful, blessed new life year. May it be filled with loads of joy, happiness, good health and many, many happy kilometers on the road.
It’s getting a bit darker in the morning now, so for those who are running early mornings, keep safe and wear reflective gear.
The Ladies run start time will also be moved to 06:15 from March until end of April. This run is for any lady in the club and you are welcome to bring along a friend. It’s a wonderful opportunity to get to know your fellow BAK members and have a nice social run, followed by coffee afterwards. If there is any member that is not on the group and would like to join in sometimes, please contact me on 083 798 0034 to be added to this group. Hope to see more ladies in the months to come.
Keep well everyone and hope to see you on the roads.
Kind regards
Your Captains,
Ilze & Meyer Dalton
